Every LED wall has a sweet spot. Stand too close and you see individual pixels; stand far enough and they blend into a seamless image. Getting viewing distance right is how you avoid paying for pixels you can't see — or buying a wall that looks chunky up close.
The three distances that matter
- Minimum viewing distance — the closest point where pixels blend. Below this, the image looks grainy.
- Optimal viewing distance — where sharpness and brightness feel best, usually a bit past the minimum.
- Maximum viewing distance — past here the wall just needs to be big enough to read; pitch barely matters.
The 10× rule (fast estimate)
A widely used shortcut: minimum viewing distance ≈ pixel pitch × 10, in feet (roughly). A P3 panel blends at about 30 ft; a P1.5 blends at ~15 ft. It's not lab-precise, but it gets you in the right neighborhood before you ever call a rep.
Measure your space first
Walk the room. Where will the nearestperson realistically stand? That number — not the back wall — drives your pitch. For a retail window, it might be 5 ft. For a festival stage, 25 ft. For a highway billboard, 200 ft. Then work backward to the pitch from our pixel pitch guide.

Bigger wall, coarser pitch — that's fine
As walls get physically larger, viewers naturally stand back to take them in, so a coarser (cheaper) pitch reads perfectly. That's why a 40-ft stadium screen can be P6 and look flawless, while a 6-ft lobby wall needs P1.5. Match the pitch to the distance and you get the best image and the best price.
